Economic and Social Impact Evaluation of North Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2016

Audience research and economic impact work which illustrates return on investment is vital to the future of cultural events of this nature. With the increasing pressure on public sector finance it has never been more important to have the ability to clearly demonstrate the transformational ability of events to make a real difference to communities and the economy.

Northumberland County Council, the organisers of the 2016 North Sea Tall Ships Regatta wanted to undertake an independent, reliable and pragmatic economic impact assessment. This was a huge event, with huge investment and international appeal; therefore, clearly an evaluation of its success was vital.

We carried out face-to-face visitor and stakeholder interviews, focus groups, economic & social impact modelling and reporting

In the words of our client, Nigel Walsh, director of the event; ‘The report delivered by Spirul has been invaluable in evaluating the overall success of the Regatta and the headline findings have generated a great deal of positive press and media interest.

The team at Spirul has a relaxed reassuring manner, which gives you confidence in their ability to deliver. They understand that each client is unique and provide expert advice to create tailor made solutions for your data needs. They were accessible, flexible and responsive throughout the commission and undoubtedly contributed to the success of the 2016 North Sea Tall Ships Regatta.’

We are delighted to be working with Northumberland County Council on an ongoing basis.
